All of us benefit from a good breakfast, whether we are teens or adults.

Our intestines contain large amount of good bacteria that promote healthy digestive systems and protect us against ailments such as diarrhoea. We’re familiar with probiotics which helps the growth of good bacteria, typically added in food and drinks to keep our digestive system healthy.

But do you know that prebiotics also helps to foster the growth of good bacteria? They are food to existing good gut bacteria which are passed through the small intestines and fermented to promote the growth of good bacteria. This process in turns delivers a healthy digestive system!

Prebiotics can be found naturally in foods such as baked beans, wholegrain breads, and oats. One serving (120g or ¾ cup cooked) of baked beans provides protein and at least 4.5g of fire (about 17 per cent of your daily needs).
It is no wonder why the Food and Agriculture Organization chose baked beans as the theme of International Year last year.

For a simple breakfast you can add baked beans on top of your toast, or mix in with your favorite vegetables and eggs for a filling breakfast meal - Recipe below!
